“In a somewhat turbulent and uncertain time, we want to be a stable, long-term partner that our customers can truly rely on for their raw material supply,” says Arvid Eriksson, Director Global Sales NBSK.

“The global situation is, to say the least, highly unpredictable, and the world feels somewhat conflict-ridden right now. But in fact, various types of disruptions have been a reality for a few years. A lot has happened in our part of the market in recent years, from mill closures to strikes, forest fires, and logistical disruptions, not least in the Suez Canal, just to name a few events that have affected the pulp market,” Arvid continues.

“So, I wouldn’t say we’ve gotten used to uncertain times. However, our high level of self-sufficiency truly provides security for both us and our customers. As Europe's largest private forest owner, we ensure a stable and reliable supply of raw materials for our production. Moreover, Östrand is the market’s most efficient NBSK facility, powered by our own green energy, an unbeatable combination that also ensures cost efficiency.”

Our sustainable forestry drives both climate and biodiversity benefits

"Our northern forests continue to thrive, with net growth driven by responsible and sustainable forestry practices, complemented by consistent replanting of harvested areas. We’ve recently launched an ambitious nature conservation strategy, with the protection of high conservation value forests at its core. Long-term, over 20% of our productive forest land will be set aside, either managed primarily for conservation or left as nature consideration during harvest,” says Arvid.

He adds: “In addition, all low-productive forests, another 10% of the forest area, are protected. We’re also developing new methods to promote biodiversity in younger forests, while also emphasizing the importance of vital, high-yield forests. And for every tree we harvest, we plant at least two, making it safe to say that we manage our forests with care and long-term responsibility.”

So, as a major forest owner with pulp at the core of SCA’s business strategy, our high degree of self-sufficiency and well-invested facilities ensure that our customers can feel confident in their raw material supply—both today and in the future," Arvid concludes.
