- OUR BUSINESS MODEL
Our business model
With 2.7 million hectares of forest, SCA is Europe’s largest private forest owner. Our business model is to sustainably create the highest possible value in, and from, this unique resource. We have growing forest assets and a high degree of self-sufficiency in raw material, energy and logistics.
We have built a well-developed value chain based on renewable raw material from our own and others’ forests. Through our integrated and well-invested industries, we maximize the value of every tree. Using this raw material, SCA develops products for customers all around the world. We offer solid-wood products, pulp, packaging, renewable energy, services for forest owners and effective transport solutions.
There is long-term and growing demand for all products manufactured by SCA and these products also meet rigorous sustainability and quality standards. Our products and forests are playing an increasingly important role in the transition to a more sustainable society.
Forest
The forest forms the foundation for SCA’s operations. Around this core, SCA has built an industrial ecosystem that maximizes value creation in and from the forest. Forest land also provides value in the form of energy production from wind power and opportunities for hunting and leisure activities.
Wood
Two thirds of the revenue for forest owners come from sawmills. This is why SCA has created a competitive sawmill industry that acts as an economic engine of the forest business and creates the conditions for a competitive fiber-based industry.
Pulp
Most of the wood that is unsuitable for use in solid-wood products is used to make pulp. A pulp mill also produces green chemicals, green electricity, heating and raw materials for biofuels, for example.
Containerboard
SCA produces containerboard – paper for transport packaging. Integrated paper mills also produce green chemicals, green electricity, heating and raw material for biofuels.
Renewable Energy
From the raw materials that are not used for solid-wood products, paper, or pulp, SCA produces energy, green electricity, biofuels and green chemicals. SCA’s forests offer favorable sites for wind power production.
Logistics
Efficient logistics are crucial for a forestry company. Raw materials must be shipped cost-efficiently to industrial facilities and products must be delivered to customers worldwide.
